Lloyd McIntyre – SSRA President
Lloyd started his career as a soccer coach when he checked the box on his daughter’s registration form asking if he was interested in being an “Assistant Coach”. Since that time, Lloyd has coached recreational, academy, middle school, and high school soccer for over 23 years. This time included three years as an assistant coach for the boys and girls soccer programs at Andrew Jackson Middle School and four years as the head coach at Dunbar Middle School. He also served for three years as the head coach for the Nitro High School Golf Team. Lloyd is a United States Youth Soccer (USYS) “D” licensed coach. In 2023, he was named the USYS Girls Recreational Coach of the Year. Most recently, Lloyd helped to start the first ever all-girls team at Buffalo High School serving as the head coach for the 2025 season.
Lloyd has two decades of experience as an administrator with Kanawha Valley United (KVU), Kanawha Valley Soccer League (KVSL), and the SSRA where his roles have included multiple years as president, referee coordinator, and registrar. He is a founding member of the Shawnee Sports Foundation as part of the Shawnee Sports Complex. Finally, Lloyd has over 15 years’ experience as a soccer referee. He is a USYS Grassroots referee and a USYS Grassroot Referee Mentor. He is also a WVSSAC referee with the Kanawha Southern Soccer Board.
The SSRA was founded in 2020 with the goal of creating something new and different in the local soccer community. Lloyd has dedicated his efforts to making this program successful and ensuring every child has the opportunity to develop in the sport.



Adam Arthur – Director of Coaching
Adam started his career as a footballer for York City and Ossett Town in England. He played professional games for York City FC in their final season in Football League Two prior to their relegation to the Football Conference, before moving to Ossett in the Northern Premier League. Adam moved to the US in 2006 to play college soccer at Lander University, Greenwood, South Carolina, where he was named an NSCAA Division II All-American and Freshman of the year. During his college years, he also played for the West Virginia Chaos in the USL Premier Development League (PDL) where his honors included PDL All-Conference and West Virginia Chaos Player of the Year. Following his college career, Adam moved to Charleston in 2011 to again play for the West Virginia Chaos.
Since 2014, Adam has served as the Director of FC Alliance; one of the largest competitive travel clubs in West Virginia. His teams have achieved the highest levels of success in state and regional competitions. In 2016, he founded The Football Factory to provide high-quality skill development to aspiring footballers in the Kanawha Valley and beyond. Adam is a USYS “D” licensed coach. His personal experience as a player and coach combined with his unique perspective on development and training serves as a cornerstone to the SSRA development philosophy.
Jerry Walton
Jerry has continued to develop his coaching skills through professional certifications having completed the USYS 9v9 and 11v11 programs. Jerry is a USYS “D” licensed coach. He most recently served as a U10 and a U14 coach in the SSRA.

Dirar Ahmad
DA has been a committed member of the SSRA coaching staff since its inception. He grew up playing the beautiful game in the streets of Palestine where they played with balls made out of torn socks. After coming to the US after high school, he was able to play intra-mural soccer in college. From there, he coached at the YMCA and helped coach youth soccer for 19 years. His coaching career has included head coach for six years at South Charleston Middle School and many more years as head coach at South Charleston High School. Most recently, he has served as head coach at John Adams Middle School where he has led his teams to multiple middle school championships. His experience as a coach and his love for kids is unparalleled. In 2025, Coach DA was named the WVSA Boys Recreational Coach of the Year. Coach DA continues to manage our U19 boys program.

Ben Price
Ben has continued to grow his understanding of the game through our coaching development program. His most recent coaching work has focused on the U8 level with numerous matches coached at the U10, U12, and U14 levels.
Matt Williamson
Matt joined the SSRA as a parent in Fall 2024. He has since assisted coaching multiple teams in our program since Spring 2025, including the U10 girls, U12 boys, and U14 boys.
Stephen Hayes
Stephen served as a coach for three years in the SSRA after serving for several seasons as an assistant coach in the KVU. In Fall 2023, Stephen was hired as the head coach for the McKinley Middle School Soccer team. In Fall 2025, Stephen joined the staff at Hayes Middle School as the assistant soccer coach. He returned to the SSRA this past Fall and will be coaching our U15 boys program.
Mike Kemlock
Mike joined the SSRA in Spring 2023 after a long-history of coaching middle and high school soccer in the Beckley area. In Fall 2023, Mike was hired as the head coach for the Dupont Middle School Girls Soccer team. In Fall 2025, Mike served as the assistant boys coach for George Washington High School. Mike returned to the SSRA this past Fall and will be coaching our U19 girls program.
Betsy Raynes
We are excited to have Betsy join the SSRA as a coach this season. Most recently, she was the head coach at George Washington Middle School. Betsy will be coaching our U19 girls progam.
Micah Dent
Micah is a long-time coach with KVU and joined our U19 boys program in Spring 2025. He returns to manage our U19 boys this Spring.
Former Coaches
We want to recognize the former coaches that have contributed to the success of this program:
- Brandon Carter – Brandon served as a long-time coach for KVU before joining the SSRA for one season. His players always demonstrated the highest degree of integrity and sportsmanship.
- Seth Jordan – Seth joined the SSRA as the head coach for the U15-U18 age group in Spring 2024. He worked previously as a volunteer coach and trainer over the last several years. During his high school career, Seth was twice named the West Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year. He was recognized as the WVHSSAC AA/A Player of the Year in 2016 and the West Virginia Sportswriters Player of the Year in 2017. Seth was selected as an East Team All-American his senior year at the All-American Game in Orlando, Florida. In Fall 2024, Seth joined the boys coaching staff at Nitro High School and continues in that role.
- Scott Grigsby – Scott has been a strong friend of the SSRA and early supporter of this program in his previous role with the Great Teays Soccer Club. Scott joined the SSRA program in Fall 2023 as a head coach with the U14 and U16 teams. In Spring 2024, Scott was named the head coach for the Charleston Catholic Middle School Boys team.
- Jessica Shelton – Jessica joined the SSRA as a parent in Fall 2023. She served as a coach for the U10 and U12 girls teams from Spring 2024 to Fall 2025.
- Chris Henley – Chris joined the SSRA in Spring 2024. He has served as a coach for the U10 and U12 girls teams from Spring 2024 to Fall 2025.
